Question: "What exactly is it you do again?"
Answer: "I'm currently working as a Previs Artist in the Film/TV industry."
[Insert Blank Confused Stare Here]
I get asked this question quite a bit. Usually from folks who are unfamiliar with todays production landscape. And truly, its no fault of theirs. Previs is still, in many ways, an emerging tool for filmmaking. But I can say with confidence that it is a very useful tool.
Ive been trying for a long time to come up with a simple explanation of what it is I do so that the "uninitiated" would have an easier time understanding, but such a thing is not so easy to do.
However, i recently came across a 4-Part article by Gare Cline that does a very good (and quite possibly, overly extensive) explanation of the concept of Previsualization. If you have the time or just want to skim through to get the idea. It is my pleasure to pass this resource unto you!
In the mean time, I will get back to planning and visualizing worlds for your future viewing pleasure. Stay tuned for more fun.
