I told you a while back that if I ever had time, I'd throw together some of my After Effects Space Tests for you to see. So here you go. Not all of these got fully polished. Some were just ideas and tests I worked out for projects that were going to require space stuff in them. But it was a fun learning experience and I wanted to share.
Here you go... take it as you will and keep working hard folks! :)
Its been awhile since i posted something. Ive been swamped with work. But I was listening/watching IGN's Game Scoop today and they discussed the WiiU and the problem its having grabbing consumers. It seems that Nintendo wants to sell 9 Million units by March and it doesnt look like its going to even get close to that. And while I am primarily in Film and TV at the moment, I LOVE games and they are a big part of my life.
So here are my two cents on some issues i see with the console and how Nintendo can maybe right this sinking ship of theirs.
1) The brand identity is bad. People who own[ed] a Wii (myself included) remember how they abandoned that console and are worried about that happening a second time. And this alone isnt the reason it was massive mistake to call it the WiiU, and link it back to its predecessor. Most people I talk to arent even aware that its a new console. They just assume its another piece of peripheral hardware for the Wii. And the hardcore community recall that there wasnt much for them on the original Wii, so why should they make the jump?
Maybe a rebrand is is order? It certainly couldnt hurt.
2) And on that note. If they rebrand, or even if they dont, why not go ahead and catch up to the XboxOne and PS4? They came into the market last year with a console that is a generation behind. Sure, its now the best console of last generation in a lot of ways. But why are people going to buy a 3rd party game for WiiU when they can get a more advanced, high fidelity version on the other consoles. "But they have Mario and Zelda", you say. Yes, they do. But those arent enough if you want to snag more than a few families and some diehard nintendo fans.
3) If they change nothing else, i must ask... Where are their exclusives? They JUST released a new Mario and Pikmin (a year after the console launch), and Smash Bros and Mario Kart are coming in a few months.
But where is Zelda?
How bout rebooting Metroid again and make it really awesome!? Id certainly take a good hard look if they did that. Or dont reboot it. JUST MAKE AN AWESOME METROID GAME!
What about Pokemon?! People have been clamoring for a good Pokemon console game for a REALLY long time. How they missing THAT boat time and time again, i cant fathom.
And how about Nintendo stops missing out on acquiring things like Minecraft on the console? Reach out to those indie developers that dont require next-gen tech for their games to work. Snatch those guys up with great exclusive deals.
They could easily turn this around by AT LEAST announcing some really great exclusive titles. But Nintendo has grown arrogant and refuses to admit that at the moment, there is not much that is appealing about the WiiU as a product. No one cares about that Game Pad of theirs.
Heck, it could, at the very least, be a great family console if nothing else. But they dont know how to market it properly, and they refuse to admit they have made some serious missteps.
just my thoughts though. What do you think? Chime in and thanks for reading. :)
